Poetry Salmon Workshop
Aims
Creative engagement with art project
Appreciation of natural environment and ecological issues through art and poetry
Appreciation of poetry through writing exercises

Outcomes
A shoal of poetry salmon created by the class, which can be displayed hanging from branches in the class room, perhaps with suitable ribbons to suggest water. These could be made from strips cut from plastic bags, to reinforce recycling and the environment.
Follow up lesson could be illustrating the poems, creating a book as a group. This could combine collage with drawing or painting.
Activities
Making the salmon from a template, filled with screwed up newspaper.
Writing poems using words written on pebbles, taken from poems about rivers, by local poets. Participants can rearrange the pebbles to create new poems.
Decorate the fish with collage material, finding relevant colours, textures and images.
Complete the artwork by adding the poem to the salmon.
A small hole in the top fin will allow a thread to be poked through, for hanging purposes
